For a smile as wide as a country sunrise
While all this has been happening…Muffin had sent another distress signal, after she was shot, this time to Baldwin. His phone lit up and he looked at Muffin’s message, “Meow, meow.=I shot, dying. Annelie, Jennifer kidnapped. My human back to nowhere. He dying too.” Baldwin was having his breakfast and had just taken a sip of his coffee. His butler had entered and asked, “would you like some more coffee sir?” That was just as Baldwin read the first part of the message and he spit out his mouthful of coffee, hitting his butler! “Shall I take that as a no sir?”, asked the butler.
“Get my jet ready, I’m going,” yelled out Baldwin, “plus I want crew B with me.” “When do you want it ready for sir?”, asked the butler. “Right now!”, yelled Baldwin and ran down to get his suitcase. He was back in less than a minute since he always kept it packed. “The car is waiting for you sir,” said the butler. “Good,” said Baldwin, “by the way, why are you all wet?” “A quick shower sir,” said the butler calmly.
“Oh,” said Baldwin, “well, next time dry yourself before getting dressed.” “Yes sir, I shall do that, thank you sir,” he said. As Baldwin was driving off he thought to himself, “he’s a good butler, but a bit strange at times.” As the butler closed the door he thought to himself, “he’s a good man to work for, but he is a bit strange at times.”
Now back to us and a bit more serious situation… Annelie looked at Kat. “It’s her heart,” she said to Jennifer, “let’s get her on the bed.” “Rock, come here,” said Jennifer. Rock was at the door watching the hallway. “Lift Kat onto the bed for us,” said Jennifer. Rock did so very gently, not knowing what was wrong with her. “What’s the problem?”, he asked. “It’s her heart,” said Annelie, “it’s just been too much action for her right now.” Then Annelie gave the needle to Jennifer to give me which she did. Then she told Jennifer to get my medicine out of her bag, but not to give it to me just yet.
“Kat’s heart stopped!”, called out Annelie and she tried to get it going again. “Good, it’s working, but weak,” said Annelie, “okay you cats, get over here and start purring as loud as you can.” She positioned both cats where they would be the best help. Kat opened her eyes and spoke weakly to Jennifer to come closer, which she did, and Kat whispered something to her. “Muffin, stand up and start kneading,” said Annelie. So she did right away. “Okay Jennifer,” said Annelie, “give Steve his medicine.” Jennifer was a bit nervous, but her hands were steady as she gave me the needle while Annelie watched, but still keeping an eye on Kat. Rock was back at the door watching the hallway when there was knocking at the front door of the house.
“I better check on that,” said Rock. “M.C., you go with Rock and watch from a safe spot,” Jennifer told him. Meow.=Yep, I be extra careful. And off the two went to see who was at the door. Meow, meow.=Can’t do kneading anymore, I very tired, and sore. “That’s okay Muffin, I’ll do it now,” said Annelie. After a couple of hours I was awake and feeling much better, but still rather tired. Kat was lying on the bed beside me, she opened her eyes as I started moving around. “How do you feel Steve?”, asked Kat. “Okay I guess,” I said, “but my head is still swirling a bit.” “That should pass quickly enough,” said Annelie.
Kat got up and asked if anyone was hungry. Meow!=Want pancakes, want pancakes! Meow, meow!=Me too, me too! Everyone laughed. “And don’t forget, lots of bacon!,” added Rock. “Um, where’s Jennifer?”, I asked. Everyone looked at each other. “Annelie and I will get busy with the pancakes and bacon,” said Kat, “Rock can fill you in on what has been happening.” Off they went with the cats, leaving Rock and I alone. “Everything happened rather fast Steve,” Rock began, “Kat’s heart stopped so Annelie and Jennifer were looking after the two of you. Then there was a knock at the door, but no one was there when M.C. and I went to check.
Obviously they wanted to get me away from the door. While we were gone, someone came by and quickly shot, but Jennifer saw them in time and she threw herself on Kat. The shooter got her instead of Kat, but Muffin got the shooter. Another man got away. Obviously they wanted to kill Kat, but they killed Jennifer instead.” Now my head was really swirling. What is going on here anyway? Rock told me other things that had happened too. He also said they had called an ambulance to pick up Jennifer’s body. We walk slowly to the kitchen while I try to digest all that has been going on while I was out. Looking for a lost doll has turned into a nightmare.
To Be Continued.

Good morning everyone! I hope you are feeling well today! It’s the start of another beautiful day up here in the north, such exceptional weather we are experiencing this year. These kinds of years do not come along too often, though they do show up now and then. And it is very nice to get a break from the normal cold and snow that we usually have this time of the year. Although they are talking about a substantial winter storm that might hit us beginning Wednesday night. Hopefully it moves slightly so it misses us.

But I guess it has to hit somewhere, if we do not get it then someone else will. We are armed with our snow shovels and ready to tackle anything! What am I saying? Maybe I will just hide under the bed with Muffin. However, we will forget that, today is supposed to be nice and sunny all day. So hopefully I can get a couple more things done outside. I have ideas again. Oops, Muffin just ran under the bed. She always does that when I say that I have ideas. Kind of strange really.
That crazy bear was around again, making noise when I’m trying to sleep, knocking things over out on the deck. He is not finding enough food I guess and he is letting me know that is not acceptable. But at least he only comes at night, so that is a plus. I’m glad I was better prepared for the early morning arrival of the birds today. At least I would have been had I remembered. Which unfortunately I didn’t. The chickadees are doing good at being first, along with the juncos. I hope those juncos leave before any snowstorm comes along.

I need to get some suet ready for the birds as well, even if there is no snow, it is cooling off this week, so it is time to get Steve’s super suet ready for the birds. I could buy some, but the birds like the kind I make better than the store bought kind. Where was I? Oh, right. The sun is now shining, the blue jays are on their second batch of peanuts, the grosbeaks have filled nearly every feeder, it is a cheerfully chirping time out there! Well, it was, suddenly everyone is gone, amazing how fast those birds can disappear sometimes. Oh well, time to head out shopping, I like to get there early before it gets crowded at the stores. Have a fabulous day everyone and God bless!
Steve and Muffin.
