Hello everyone and welcome back to another week of wildflowers with Steve and Muffin! Today’s wildflower is the “Lindley’s Aster”. This is a native wildflower that is a nice pale blue color and the plant will grow from 1 to 3 feet (30 to 90cm) tall. It enjoys sun or partial shade and grows in open woods, forest edges, roadsides and fields. The leaves are somewhat thin and heart shaped, especially toward the base of the plant, less heart shaped further up the stem and because of the leaves it is sometimes called the “northern heart-leaved aster”. It blooms from August to October and the flowers are generally about 1 inch (2.5cm) across. It can be found across Canada and the northern US states and is one of our most common wild asters.
