Monday’s Musings #5.

Good morning everyone and Happy Monday! The sky is so amazingly blue this morning, the sun is shining brightly, the birds are singing, it’s a great morning! Before I forget, I wanted to mention something. Several people have discovered they are no longer following my blog so they have to refollow. And it can happen many times. That’s not me doing that, I really don’t know what is going on. Also some people are coming to my site and they end up with a page that says I have deleted my site, which is not true, as you can see. Again, I have no idea why this is happening and WP is no help with this at all.

Baxter the blue jay.

Mainly because the problem doesn’t happen when they check it. So I just wanted to let everyone know, it’s not me kicking people off my blog, it’s something that is just happening for no reason. I actually saw Coffee yesterday, he’s one of my chipmunks, but he didn’t stay around long. Then this morning Chester, another chipmunk, showed up, but unfortunately so did Jasmine. So Chester took a flying leap off the deck. Jasmine was here yesterday as well, and Leap showed up.

Sir Henry the herring gull.

What a chase! But rather than fight, Leap took a big leap off the deck too! Jasmine has taken over as top squirrel now, she even chases Jasper away. And no one wants to challenge her in an actual fight, they just run away as fast as they can! They have all been in a fight with her, but once is enough apparently. It’s amazing how quickly she rose to top spot. And yet she’s the smallest squirrel around here.

Jasmine.

It’s a bit cool sitting on the deck this morning, but it’s nice anyway, though there wasn’t much bird activity this morning, not even singing birds, it was actually quite quiet out there except for the crows cawing. We had some thunderstorms yesterday afternoon, not much rain though, but there was severe thunderstorm warnings out for our area. Muffin agree with that. She stayed by my feet the whole time, her new favorite spot when storms are around. None of the storms were that bad though, at least not right here. Looks like it will be nice today so perhaps I can walk down to the river again later. Have a wonderful day and God bless!

Steve And Muffin’s Wildflowers #15.

Hello everyone and welcome back to our wildflower series! Today’s wildflower is the “swamp smartweed”, the terrestrial form. There is also an aquatic form of this wildflower. But this one lives on land, usually near water or wet areas, such as lakes, rivers and streams. The flower spike of beautiful pink flowers can be anywhere from 2 to 4 inches (5 to 10cm) long and the plant can grow from 1 to 3 feet (30 to 90cm) tall. It generally blooms from June to September, though in our area it’s usually late June to early August. They generally are found in sunny to partially shaded areas. It is found right across Canada and throughout most of the US. Bees and butterflies like these flowers. I hope you have a wonderful day and God bless!
