Sunday’s Sunshine #9.

Good morning and Happy Sunday everyone! It’s so nice to see all of you again today! It’s a cloudy, wet morning here today, but mild. We had rain overnight and again this morning giving everything a nice fresh spring scent floating through the air. That robin wasn’t singing quite so much this morning, he was probably too busy out digging up worms for his mate and himself. Sir George and Sir Henry were here for their breakfast early this morning. The blue jays were sitting in the trees waiting for me to put out some peanuts for them.

Nice red dahlia.

Jasper was here nice and early today as well. Loons were calling out on the lake, those calls can really travel quite a distance. The robin has begun singing once again. I still haven’t heard any other thrushes yet which is so odd. There’s a small bird called a vireo that I haven’t heard yet this year either, and they are a common bird around this area. We have 4 species of them, but none around yet. Even the numbers of warblers, another small bird, are down from normal. Even though these species don’t come to feeders, they can still be affected by feeding birds. As I mentioned before, birds attract more birds.

Another beautiful dahlia.

Or it could be that overall numbers are down this year for some reason. That does happen occasionally, bird numbers do go up and down in cycles it seems. That was something quite noticeable back when I was studying birds. The clouds are breaking up and there is beautiful blue sky, so vivid, taking their place. The sun is even beginning to shine now. It looks so beautiful with that new bright green against the blue sky. And the sun shining on those leaves makes them even brighter.

One of my geraniums. All pics today were before the snow and frost killed all the flowers.

There’s a few bumble bees gathering nectar from the apple blossoms, not like other years though. In normal years those flowers would be full of bees, but not this year. Perhaps the cold spring has had an effect on their numbers this year. Hmm, there’s a hummingbird on the apple flowers now too. I wonder where they will nest this year? I have never seen an actual hummingbird nest, but I have never looked too hard for one either. Must be time to take a cup of coffee and sit on the deck for a while. Maybe the chipmunks will come and visit me. I hope you all have a sunshiny Sunday and God bless!
