Daily Pics #172.

Good morning everyone and Happy Saturday! The sky is clear, the sun is just starting to peek over the hill and shine on the tops of the trees. The loons are very busy this morning, some calling on the lake in two locations, others flying around and laughing, this was easily the biggest morning for loon activity this year so far. Last year I hardly heard any loons and saw even less. This year I hear them every day which is fantastic. Sometimes they are a bit farther away, like this morning, other times they fly right over the house. They truly are a bird that describes the northern wilderness experience. And they sound so much nicer in real life than on recordings, though there are some professional recordings that are quite clear. So far my attempts to record them have not been very successful. I’m probably too far away to capture their calls properly.

The birds seem to be extra busy with their singing this morning, perhaps because it feels a bit milder today and with the sun shining it is just a fabulous morning. Here I sit with my coffee enjoying all the sights and sounds of a northern summer morning. This is why I like to get up so early in the morning, I just don’t want to miss this kind of beauty. Lady Pearl was here again, the second time over this past week that she has come without Sir George. Henry was here too, only the second time for him too over the last week. But they are busy with their young right now and those little birds will be getting quite large now and needing a lot of attention, food wise. As I enjoy my next cup of coffee, inside…the clouds moved in rather quickly and it is now raining. So let’s look at some nice bright yellow wildflowers today, starting with the featured image at the top, which of course is the dandelion. They have mostly stopped blooming now though they will continue right through to fall in smaller numbers…

In the pic above is the “yellow goat’s beard”, a tall common roadside flower in the same family as the dandelion and they produce the same kind of seed heads, but much larger.

In the pic above is the small, but beautiful “wood sorrel”. These are still a plentiful wildflower, unlike many that are fast disappearing from the landscape. Looks like it will be a wet day, a good coffee day. Thank you for joining us again, I hope you all have a great day and God bless!
