Nature’s Art #43.
Hello everyone and welcome back to our art in nature series for this week! I trust that all of you are having a good week so far. Our weather has certainly cooled off a lot from those beautiful days we experienced last week. But that is quite typical for us up here in the north. Though this cool weather seems to be getting extended longer each year. If this keeps up we may not have spring at all after a few years. Just kind of go from winter to summer. Sir George is getting earlier all the time, because it’s getting daylight earlier. Sitting on the feeder, going “yep, yep, yep”, trying to get my attention to bring the food out. I need to start getting up earlier too, get into my summer schedule. I don’t like lying in bed when it’s already daylight. So during the summer I always get up earlier. Baxter and Benson have been busy here this morning, they are 2 of my blue jays, and they come to get peanuts and bring them back to their mates who are sitting on eggs now.
And now for some spring art in nature pics to share with you…
Here we have a large hole in a large red pine tree, so nicely carved out. Perhaps a new nesting spot for the pileated woodpeckers that live in the area? I haven’t seen any activity there yet, but then, I’m not around there that much. Might have to wait until they actually have some young ones. At least I’m hoping, that would make for some great pics.
And here we have a nice canopy of white pine branches to give some shade on a sunny day as we sit on the bench overlooking the river.
And these same branches showing off their beautiful patterns of pine needles in the bright sunshine. And there we have our look at today’s art in nature, I hope you like this selection. Have a wonderful day everyone, stay safe and God bless!

Daily Pics #126.
Good morning everyone! It looks like another cloudy day here, but at least the clouds kept it from freezing overnight, so that is a definite plus. There is getting to be a lot more little sparrows around now, and another new one showed up yesterday, the white-crowned sparrow. Still waiting for our two largest sparrows yet, the fox sparrow and the Harris’ sparrow. The sparrows are later than usual this year, as are most birds it seems. Each year they seem to be coming back a little later than the year before. The clay-colored sparrow has also not shown up yet. Normally we would be getting a lot of warblers coming back now, but only one has managed to find their way up here so far. They are all such beautifully colored little birds, but because they are so small they are seldom seen by people. But their songs are generally loud and beautiful, except for a few of them. So it is always such a joy when they do arrive and their songs are added to the morning chorus.
And now for today’s spring pics…
In the above pic is a ruffed grouse, a bird I have been trying to get for the last 2 years. It is generally kind of hard to get close to these birds to get a good pic and this one still isn’t the best, but I am happy to at least have one to add to my collection of bird pics now. There are some small twigs in front of him giving a slight blurry look.
Although we have seen the mourning cloak butterfly already, I thought this one looked nice sitting on top of this young balsam tree as it was enjoying some sunshine.
