For a smile as wide as a country sunrise
Good morning everyone! The sun is shining beautifully and the sky is a clear, light blue. And it’s chilly. They just issued a cold warning for us. I am curious as to why they didn’t do so earlier, usually they know well in advance that it’s going to be cold. This seemed to catch our weather people off guard a little bit. It is presently at -40, which is the temperature where both Celsius and Fahrenheit are the same.
That makes today a good day for staying indoors and drinking coffee. Or tea if you prefer. I can feel the cold penetrating through that window where I sit. There is a light breeze outside, but nothing serious, which is good, a strong wind at this temperature would be bad. The coldest on record for our town is -80F (-62C), a temperature that stayed with us 4 days in a row.

Red-Breasted Nuthatch.
We did hit -100F (-73C) with the windchill factored in on one day. Those were cold days. A friend and I went for a walk on one of those days. We had to take some medication to his parents who lived out on an island. Their car wouldn’t start due to the cold and they were too old to try walking into town. So, we drove across the ice to the island and parked along the shore.
From there we had to walk slightly over one mile, about 1.7kms. We were dressed very warmly, but it was still an amazingly cold walk. We got to warm up at his parents house before walking back, which was good. We had to face the wind walking to his parents house, but the wind was at our backs walking out, which made the walk much easier, though still cold. Very cold.

Boreal Chickadee on suet feeder.
People were warned not to go outside that day because it was just too dangerous. But, his parents needed the medication on that day and it was safer walking with someone, rather than walking alone. I didn’t mind doing it either, it was necessary, so I said “absolutely, I will come along.” At his parents we had hot chocolate and fresh homemade donuts.
I could eat donuts back then, not anymore. Sigh. They are so good. Hmm, the only birds I have seen flying around today are the ravens. The other birds hide when it’s cold, but they still need to move around and look for food.

Black-Capped Chickadee getting a peanut piece.
Those poor tiny birds, like chickadees and nuthatches, if they don’t get enough food on a day like today, then they don’t make it through the night. A lot die in cold weather like this, due to lack of food. Talking about all this cold reminds me I need some more coffee. I hope you all have a wonderful day and God bless!

A retiree was given a set of golf clubs by his co-workers. Thinking he’d try the game, he asked the local pro for lessons, explaining that he knew nothing whatever of the game. The pro showed him the stance and swing, then said, “Just hit the ball toward the flag on the first green.”
The novice teed up and smacked the ball straight onto the green, where it stopped inches from the hole. “Now what?” the fellow asked the speechless pro.
“Uh… you’re supposed to hit the ball into the cup,” the pro finally said, after he was able to speak again.
“Oh great! NOW you tell me!” said the beginner.

EXERCISE PROGRAM
Begin by standing on a comfortable surface, where you have plenty of room at each side.
With a 5-lb potato sack in each hand, extend your arms straight out from your sides and hold them there as long as you can. Try to reach a full minute, and then relax.
Each day, you’ll find that you can hold this position for just a bit longer.
After a couple of weeks, move up to 10-lb potato sacks.
Then try 50-lb potato sacks and then eventually try to get to where you can lift a 100-lb potato sack in each hand and hold your arms straight for more than a full minute.
After you feel confident at that level, put a potato in each of the sacks.

A magician was working on a Caribbean cruise ship. The audience was different each week, so the magician allowed himself to do the same tricks over and over again.
There was only one problem: The captain’s parrot saw the show every week and began to understand what the magician did in every trick. Once he understood, he started shouting in the middle of the show:
“Look, it’s not the same hat!”
“Look, he’s hiding the flowers under the table!”
“Hey, why are all the cards the Ace of Spades?”
The magician was furious but couldn’t do anything; it was the captain’s parrot after all.
One day the ship had an accident and sank. The magician found himself on a piece of wood, in the middle of the ocean, and of course the parrot was by his side. They stared at each other with hate, but did not utter a word.
This went on for several days. After a week the parrot finally said: “Okay, I give up. What’d you do with the boat?”

This is an unusual paragraph. I’m curious as to just how quickly you can find out what is so unusual about it. It looks so ordinary and plain that you would think nothing was wrong with it. In fact, nothing is wrong with it! It is highly unusual though. Study it and think about it, but you still may not find anything odd. But if you work at it a bit, you might find out. Try to do so without any coaching!

That all for today everyone, just ask me about last one and I give answer. Have nice week!
