For a smile as wide as a country sunrise
Well, Matt and the Knight Riders had good success with their part of this case and stopped the Fatman from stealing that huge shipment of gold. Plus, the Fatman lost some of his best men that he had sent to steal that gold. The news will take some time to reach him though, if it ever does. That will depend on how successful Kat and her Wildcats are at finding the Fatman, and eliminating him.
Meanwhile, back at the chateau. “Oh, I forgot to mention, the Fatman always gets one of his top men to book rooms in their name, not in his name,” said Carolyn to Annelie as she came sliding into the library. Thump, thump! Two of the cats, Snow and Tiia, slid in behind Carolyn and landed against her legs. “I see you are learning from the cats,” said Annelie, “and maybe a fan club besides.” “Oh, I thought they were supposed to keep an eye on me,” said Carolyn, “I certainly never thought they might like me. The name will likely be Crane Tingle. Okay guys, back to work.”
And off she went with the cats right behind her. Annelie found the hotel with that name and called Kat right away. “Good, that will save us some time,” said Kat. “Just be careful Kat,” said Annelie, “he might be fat, but Carolyn said his arms are like trees, and more than once he has killed men with just one punch. He also always sleeps with two guns, one under his pillow and a bigger weapon under the blankets. Plus he always has 6 men in the outer room as guards, day and night. His room is really a suite, quite large apparently. He always eats in his room too.”
“Good info to have Annelie, say thanks to Carolyn for me,” she said. Kat and the Wildcats then continued through Paris to the hotel where the Fatman is staying. Hopefully they can eliminate the Fatman this time, once and for all. But if he finds out about losing the gold shipment, he just might decide to leave early and go back into hiding again. That whole family needs to be stopped. There is getting to be less and less of them, but there are still too many and they can still do a lot of harm between them.
And if those that are left ever decide to join together, well, that could have terrible consequences for us, and others as well. But for now, the team needs to focus on the Fatman, and that is the job of Kat and the Wildcats. Once at the hotel the Wildcats went inside and talked with some of the staff. It was right at the time when the Fatman likes to eat his breakfast, or rather, precisely 9am, which gave them another 45 minutes. Two maids were about to take fresh towels, two big stacks of them, up to the Fatman’s room.
They were always afraid to go up there with all those men, and the Fatman himself was especially scary to them. So Kat and 6 of the girls went with the maids on one elevator, the other girls went on the other elevator. The maids got off on the 9th floor while Kat and the girls continued to the 10th floor where the Fatman had his suite. Kat and the girls had taken the stacks of towels and would deliver them. They had borrowed maid uniforms to wear so they would be able to get into the room.
They knocked on the door and one of the men answered and let the girls in when he saw they were the maids with towels. Kat and two others came into the room. “Hey, you 3 are the best looking maids yet,” said one man. “Just leave the towels on this table ladies,” said another man. So they did so, smiling the whole time. Then one of them went and opened the door. “Hey, don’t leave so soon babe,” said the first man. “I would not think of leaving yet,” said Kera.
Then she pulled the door open and 5 more girls came in and the fight began! They did not want to use guns which would disturb others in the building, so they chose to fight instead. Tracker, Midnight and Rascal came into the room too, waiting for their turn, and they did not have long to wait. The Fatman heard the noise and came out of his bedroom shooting his assault rifle. The girls fell to the floor, except Kat, and when the Fatman tried to shoot her, nothing happened.
“Everyone makes the same mistake Fatman,” said Kat, “you cannot kill a ghost, I am already dead.” She then disappeared which horrified Fatman. Then, “Thwock!, Thwock!, Thwock!” Fatman fell against the wall, but did not fall to the floor. Then Rascal jumped onto him, scratching with his big claws, causing him to scream. He then jumped off and Kat appeared as she bounced off the bed, hitting the Fatman with both feet right on his head. That caused his head to twist and there was a loud crack, then he fell to the floor with a loud thud!
All the girls got up and they checked the Fatman carefully to make sure he was actually dead. He was. The shots had been reported, however, and police sirens could be heard pulling up to the hotel. The girls had just made it down to the main floor and Kat, still in uniform told the police the shots were on the tenth floor, so the police went quickly up the elevators. There was so much chaos on the main floor that it was easy for the girls to remove their uniforms in the kitchen and then all of them left out the back door before more police arrived.
Soon they were driving away in their vans and heading back home. They all arrived home safely, having completed their part of this case. But what about Steve and the others? It looks like they will be remaining in their new ‘life’ for a while yet. Patrick admitted that he too thought it would take at least weeks, and likely months to find and antidote to this drug. Mr. B, the other one, not ours, told Patrick he could stay as long as he wanted and if he wanted to stay with us permanently, that would be okay as well.
He chose that one and is now working on passing our tests to join the team. Carolyn has had a genuine change of heart, Kat, Jennifer, Galyna, and the cats all agree with that. She would like to join our team as well, but is afraid to ask, so for now she is keeping it a secret. Steve and the others are now living in the newly renovated building where they have much more living space and get outdoor activities as well. But they all need to be kept locked up for safety reasons. That part is hard on all the team.
For now, the Investigators are split into three separate teams with Kristina leading the Investigators, which has 15 girls under her. Then Kat has the Wildcats, with another 14 girls under her and Matt has the Knight Riders, with 14 guys under him. Annelie is at home to help all 3 teams. Baldwin is taking a bigger role in looking after things, especially with the Investigators and the Knight Riders, while Mandar is now officially with the team also and helps with the Wildcats. The medical team has 2 doctors and 3 nurses. Well, this case has officially ended, though not the way everyone had hoped. I wonder what our next case will bring our way.
The End. A new case will be coming shortly.

Hello everyone and Happy Saturday! It is a beautiful day, wonderful, clear blue sky so the sun can shine unhindered. Sunny days like this are few and far between this year, therefore it is exciting when we do get such a day. It was a day like this, years ago, that a young woman, Cathy, from the southern part of our province, was up here camping in one of our campgrounds.
She had called me ahead of time to make sure we could spend some time together. She was here the year before and spent time with me looking for owls. She would like to do that again, plus hopefully find some other birds that she has not seen before. Bird watching was a serious hobby for her, as it was for me. We both liked to participate in bird studies and as a result, we both would end up doing crazy things sometimes to find birds we had not seen before.

Her goal was to see as many different species of birds within our province of Ontario as she could. Which is why she came to the northern part of the province to find birds they don’t have down south. I had picked out a spot where we should be able to find most of the birds on her list and maybe even all of them. It will require hiking in to a certain spot which will take up a few hours of time, then we would stay a couple of days and hike back out on day 4.
So we would be gone 4 days and 3 nights. We did our food shopping the day before we left. She provided the tent and some other items. I didn’t have much in the way of camping supplies at that time since I had basically given up camping by then since no one I knew at the time liked camping. Very strange really. She took over packing things into our backpacks, something she was amazingly good at, making sure that both weighed approximately the same.

I offered to carry more weight in mine but she said that would not be fair. “I keep myself in good shape,” she said. “I can’t deny that,” I replied. She laughed. “That is not what I meant,” she said. I was going to bring my tent too, but she said no to that. “That is just unnecessary stuff,” she informed me, “you never carry unnecessary items when hiking or camping. Besides, my tent is plenty big enough for 2 people.”
I learned quickly not to argue with her about certain things, I would lose anyway, so there was no point. Off we went to a place where I could safely park my car, then we began our hike. Our destination would be a nice lake away from people, something that is good if we want to see a lot of wildlife. And we certainly did see, and hear, a lot. The hike in to this lake was easy going, mostly across nice granite rock and under tall pines.

There were no mosquitoes on the way in, but there certainly were a lot of deer flies. They are very pesty critters that aim for the back of the head and neck where it is harder to get at them. They seemed to bother me more than Cathy. As we were nearing the lake we spotted a doe and her twin fawns. Cathy was overjoyed to see them so close to us. Soon, after 6 hours, we were at our destination.
There was a beautiful, soft sandy beach on the other side of the lake, so we decided that would be a nicer place to camp. And it was a great spot too. I cleared out a nice spot where we could have a bonfire later, then went and gathered wood for it. Cathy set up the tent while I was doing that. After our campsite was ready we went out to look around the area a bit…

Well, I will stop there for now, but more to this story is coming our way in part 2. I hope you all have a wonderful weekend and God bless!
Steve and Muffin.
