For a smile as wide as a country sunrise
Greetings everyone! How are you all today? Muffin and I have had kind of a lazy day. Actually, right now we are having a lot of those. Sigh. But the weather is really quite nice today. The sun is shining, it’s 12C, or 54F, with a light wind. For us that is fabulous for this time of year. That is going to change tomorrow however. It was a day like this, though a bit warmer and earlier in the autumn, that dad and I went looking for insulators.
We had gone as far as we wanted and were now sitting on a hillside with our coffee. Dad got his own coffee and sandwiches this time, said he didn’t trust me. Strange. We were both sitting on a large fallen tree. Nothing funny has happened on this trip, I said. It has been nice, said dad. I hope we’re not taking all these insulators back, I said. We had found a lot. Naturally we will, said dad, only about 50lbs each. More like 100, I said.
And it’s not far, said dad. It’s 3 miles, said I. But we packed them up and off we went. After the first mile they certainly felt like 100lbs. Even dad admitted that. The second mile there was this long stretch through a large swamp. We had to stay on the tracks. We were not even half way across and here comes a train. Now we could have just moved over to the other track, but instead dad jumped over the edge, so I followed.
I figured there must be another train coming on that track. There wasn’t. All that extra weight in our back packs was bad, we both slipped and started to slide. Dad was in the lead which was a good thing. Otherwise I would have been flattened. Then he hit something and turned around completely. Wow, he’s going head first. That’s not such a good idea. I would like to have seen dad’s face though. I’m sure it would have been a look of complete terror. He’s going right into those willows and…
I will continue this little adventure next time. It was just a little too long for one post. But a little short for two. So the only thing to do was split it in two. I hope you all have a great weekend and God bless!

Wow ! It would appear that trains crossed your paths several times on different trips…scary to me…the pics actually “glowed” with colour ! Waiting for the next part of the adventure !

Not unusual to meet the trains, usually several on each hike in the fall with all the grain trains. Thanks for reading!
