Good morning to everyone! It’s another gorgeous morning here at Steve’s Country. I hope it’s the same where you live too, even though it might already be afternoon or evening where you are living. The sun is shining and that always makes for a beautiful morning. And sitting here with my morning coffee enjoying the morning freshness is also beautiful. And there goes a loon flying overhead again, something that happens nearly every morning though often silently, but this morning it is laughing as it goes past. I notice he starts laughing just as soon as he gets overhead. Do you suppose that means something? Hmm. Oh well, it sounds so nice anyway.
Mr. and Mrs. hairy woodpecker are busy at the feeders a lot these days. Once their young are a certain age the parents come here and fill their beaks with sunflower seeds to take back to those hungry mouths. And now they have discovered that peanuts work real well too, and of course, they are bigger which means less trips to make. They take the peanut up to the birch tree on the hill which has an old broken branch. That makes a perfect spot to put the peanut and peck it open. Amazing how a woodpecker, which eats bugs, automatically knows that a peanut is something good to eat. Perhaps they have just been watching those blue jays and decided to give it a try.
And now for some wildflowers to share with you…
In the above photo we have a beautiful “moss phlox” with more on the way. There is quite a few this year, doing much better than last year for sure.
And when I was hanging around this one spot, high on a hill I spotted some bearberry plants so looked around for some flowers. There are lots of plants normally, but few flowers which is odd. But I did find some, and yes, they are fully open. They produce a rather hard red berry and the leaves are evergreen. And that’s it for our pics for today. Oh, the featured image at the top is the starflower. I hope you have a wonderful day and God bless!
