Daily Pics #159.

Good morning on this very rainy Sunday! Poor Muffin. She does not like thunderstorms or even heavy rain. Light rain is okay, but not the heavy kind of rain we had this morning. And there was thunder around as well, though nothing close by. Muffin spent about half the night sleeping under the bed. That’s her safe place for when things like this happen. And as a result of this rain I am enjoying my coffee inside this morning. I might be doing that a lot this week if the forecast is correct. And, after tomorrow, we will be heading into some much cooler weather for a few days. Plus more rain. But June is normally our rainiest month of the year. But that is good in some ways. It really helps things to grow well, mainly thinking of trees and wild plants. Great for berry producing bushes, such as blueberries. It helps to reduce the tick season since they don’t like rainy weather. It really helps to produce a good crop of mosquitoes. Okay, that last one is not so good. There was already a lot of mosquitoes. I can just imagine what it will be like walking down to the river. The photo at the top is a wild strawberry. And now…

In the above photo is one of our wild violets, the “great spurred violet”. It’s a lighter colored violet than some of the others we have but it’s also a fairly large flowered variety. The flowers are usually 1 inch (2.5cm) across.

And in the above pic is a nice bright red petunia from my little container garden on my deck. Hummingbirds love these flowers as well so they are good to have around to help attract these little birds. I hope you all have a wonderful Sunday and God bless!

Steve and Muffin.

      • I don’t like using anything for the mosquitoes, they have to eat too.πŸ˜›πŸ˜‚ I have used some before though, if the mosquitoes get too bad.😳 Mosquitoes here can carry two different diseases,😬 West Nile virus and another one, can’t remember the name.😳😲 I’m going to talk about mosquitoes soon!😁🦟🦟 Have a good night Simon!πŸ˜€πŸ˜ΊπŸŒ™πŸ˜΄

      • You are so kind πŸ€— feeding own blood to mosquitoes, who would do that, I definitely won’t 😊😜 that looks like deadly virus, how was your conversation with mosquitoes, did they sing their usual song in Chorus 😼😸 Muffin likes to eat them πŸ€” just kidding 😁

      • Actually Muffin does eat them,😸 she hates that buzzing around her ears😾😾 and she “chomps” them real fast!😼 Usually only the first 20 mosquitoes get a free meal,😁 the rest have to fight for it!😳πŸ€ͺ😲🦟🦟🦟

    • Yes, I was safe taking these pics, right in the yard here.😜😁 Except the violet, that was by the river, but it was in a kind of safe place.πŸ€”πŸ˜³πŸ™„

      • You sure 🧐 😳 You were taking risks for violet didn’t you πŸ™„πŸ€” Don’t violate your limitations πŸ˜‰ the beauty of the flower deserves some risk, but doesn’t mean you can take risk 😸 stay safe Steve πŸ€—

      • Really, it was safe, it was on a hillside sloping to the river, but it was a nice smooth hill with grass, only a little bit steep.πŸ˜€ But there was a couple small trees I could grab hold of before falling over the edge.πŸ˜€πŸ˜œ I’m staying safe.😳 Really.😜 For sure.πŸ™„ Absolutely.😁😸

  7. Steve, your flowery photography always brings some sunshine to central Ohio. Speaking of mosquitoes, I walked into a few the other morning. There are a few vernal ponds at a nature park, which is a perfect breeding ground.

    • Thank you so much Richard! Yes, ponds are a perfect spot for mosquitoes. There are a couple natural ponds, hidden among the trees along my path to the river. I’m sure they have a lot of mosquito activity! Have a great evening!😁😸

  8. We don’t like big storms either. Our, Callie, hides under the bed! Beautiful flower pics and I didn’t know red petunias attracted hummingbirds so thanks for the info. Give Muffin a hug! πŸŒžπŸŒ·β˜•οΈβ˜•οΈ

    • Hmm, Callie and Muffin have something in common! Thanks Eugenia! Yes, red petunias and red geraniums seem to work really well. I think Muffin is back under the bed as another storm has arrived! But I’ll pass on the hug as soon as possible! Have a nice sunny day!πŸ˜ƒπŸ˜ΊπŸŒžβ˜•β˜•β›ˆβ›ˆ
