For a smile as wide as a country sunrise
Good morning to everyone on this beautiful Tuesday! The coffee is ready, so is tea, so please help yourself and spend some relaxing time with Muffin and I this morning! The birds are waking up and arriving one by one, with the chickadees first in line for breakfast as usual. The first redpolls are also coming in and a male downy woodpecker is here nice and early today also. I went for a walk to the river yesterday, it was a nice day and was supposed to have a high of 32F, 0C, which is very nice for January. It didn’t quite get there however and stayed at 25F, -4C, instead. Still nice for this time of year, but for some reason I felt cold yesterday, even though I dressed just as warmly as usual. My toes got cold, so did my hands and face. Even the other day when the temp was 19F, -7C, I didn’t feel that cold.

One surprising thing was the little bit of ice on the river was actually melting away. Some spots the ice was gone completely, which was a little odd. But the night temps have been a little milder the last few nights, so that does make a difference as the current is then able to melt the ice easier. I only saw 2 other people out walking yesterday and they were on the path across the river. There was a lot of chickadee and nuthatch activity all along the path, I haven’t heard that much activity in a long time. Plus there was a nice pileated woodpecker pounding away on a tall white pine that died last summer. That was down close to the river.

Also in the same area there was a black-backed woodpecker, a much smaller woodpecker than the pileated, working away on a smaller dead spruce tree. And just a little further away was a hairy woodpecker who was just flying around. There was a lot of ducks in two different areas on the river, but both flocks were too far away for good pics, though I tried anyway. The path was getting hard packed and slippery, especially on the two hills so I had to be careful walking in those locations. But it was beautiful sitting on the bench overlooking the river which was so nice and calm yesterday. I left sooner than I wanted since I was getting rather cold, but I enjoyed my walk. I hope you all have a wonderful day and God bless!

Steve, thanks for the coffee and sharing your walk at the river. On Sunday afternoon, I took advantage of the mild weather to again walk along the tow path of an old canal. The barren trees offered a much different view.

Thanks for coming today Richard! I’m sure those old canals would be a great place for a walk. Yes, each season has it’s own beauty and different views with it.😀😺

that bench does sound like a great place to sit and take in nature for a while…

Yes indeed, it’s in a perfect spot for overlooking the river. There is actually another bench too, but it’s further up river and hard to get at this time of year. But a beautiful spot to sit.

you can save the other bench for nicer weather…

We moved it before the lockdown got tighter, so we could still ha e 10 people, instead of 5.

Very nice pictures Steve. I very much enjoy your writing and descriptions of your surroundings. I am sorry I am so late with my response today. I received some very sad news this morning. My brother passed away last night. I’m afraid I didn’t get back soon enough to see him. I count it as,a blessing his sufferinf was short. Hope to chat tomorrow. I know you’re long in by now. I am having an issue similar to yours with unwanted emails and texts. Very frustrating. Good Night

Good morning Dusty. I’m sorry to hear of your brother’s passing, but you’re right, it’s good the suffering was short.
You’re getting those things too? Maybe it’s because of those people you chat with. Wait, that’s me!😲 Forget what I said.😳 I’ll be around, but kind of off and on today.😁 Hope you get to do some relaxing today.😀😺

Did you slip when walking

No, but winter walking is different, more strain on the legs, especially all that uphill walking. That’s likely what’s causing the problems.

Yep, I hope to walk down to the river after lunch, supposed to be 30F and sunny. My last chance for a nice walk. Tomorrow our province heads into new restrictions, including a ‘stay at home’ order, except for essentials. Things have gotten really bad here, hospitals are beyond capacity already.

Yikes! Any ideas how long before the vaccine will be available there?

They’ve started in the southern part of the province, but no word yet when it will be available here. They are already shipping patients to other places and they said yesterday if things keep up the way they are our whole health care system could collapse here in Ontario. They have taken nurses from our little hospital to work elsewhere, but that hurts us.

Yeah! I was beginning to think they don’t want me chatting with you! 😉 I cancelled the card account completely! They had it all. SSN address security code,,, Anyway, So what’s the plan with the cat?? You can’t let them get away!!

I’m back, was talking with my brother. Amazing how they can get that info. Maybe somewhere you shop?🤔😳 I thought you had the plan?🤔🙄 Getting Muffin was the main thing.😠 However, I did promise to help catch these jewel thieves and we will do it!😒😾😾🕵️♂️

I only ever used it for plane tickets. Oh well. Back to the cat… How well does anyone know this Bernie guy??
LikeLiked by 1 person
Oh no, now you can’t fly! Bernard is a trusted police officer, which is why they sent him to help us to catch these thieves. Hopefully he can avoid them long enough to carry out the plan that we don’t have since the original plan had to be abandoned.😳🙄😾😾👩

My tickets are paid for already. And I still have my feathers, oh ahm… Yeah I can still fly. Well the first casualty in any operation is the plan! So that’s why you had a backup one! 😁 You do have a backup plan??…

Um, a backup plan would have been good.😳 I mean, yes, we have one,🤔 I’m making it up as we go!🙄😬

Good plan! That way you can adjust on the fly! Oh, I mean as you need to! Forget the flying part you got no where to go right now. Right? You got to make sure that the Cat is safe.

Right, can’t go anywhere right now. Have to, um, have to, uh, get to the next part of our plan, soon as I think of it.🙄😾

Right, that’s what I always say too.😁 Except Muffin is sick,😕 so it’s up to Mr. Cat and me.😒😾 No, no, it’s Muffin that goes for the feet.😹 Mr. Cat prefers the headache method!🤕
