Steve’s Bird Of The Day #46.

Hi everyone and here we are with another sparrow, the “Lincoln’s sparrow”. This is a very shy sparrow and hard to get a good picture of them since they don’t like to come out in the open very often. They breed from Alaska right through most of Canada within the tree range and in the mountains out west down into California and Colorado. They are a common sparrow though not many people get to see them. They generally nest on the ground in a secluded well hidden spot, the female lays 3 to 5 eggs and both parents help care for the babies. They like eating insects of many kinds, but in fall and spring will eat seeds too. They mostly winter in more tropical places from Mexico and south. During migration they are often with other sparrows. Have a wonderful weekend and Happy Easter everyone!

    • Most sparrows nest on the ground, but they pick well hidden spots. Not too windy here yet, but supposed to pick up again this afternoon.๐Ÿ˜€๐Ÿ˜บ๐ŸŒž๐Ÿ“ท

  3. Sparrows are such cute little birds and have pretty markings. Winter decided to interrupt our spring days with temps in the 30’s F. But, no surprise because there is usually a nip in the air around Easter. Hopefully, it is winter’s last hurrah! Happy Easter to you and Muffin from Callie and her humans. ๐Ÿ˜ธ๐Ÿฃ๐Ÿ‡๐Ÿฅš๐Ÿฅšโ˜•๏ธโ˜•๏ธ

    • Yes, there is so many different species of sparrows too, I wish I could get pics of all of them. Unfortunately it’s just not possible unless they stop in here. We often get snowstorms around Easter, I’m glad this year is different, sunshine today and 56, which is good for us! Happy Easter!๐Ÿ˜€๐Ÿฟ๐Ÿฟ๐Ÿฟ๐Ÿฟ๐Ÿฟ

    • And I have only shown about half the ones we have in this area. Hard to get pics of the others because they have specific habitats, so I would have to travel around quite a bit to get them.
