Saturday Morning.

Good morning everyone! Wow, I was up so early this morning and yet I’m late getting my post out today. Amazing how that works. But there has been a lot to do this morning, plus I think I was spending more time than usual watching all the activity outside. There are a lot of those evening grosbeaks out there again, at least 80 of them and maybe more. They are constantly taking turns at the feeder since it only holds about 20 birds at a time. Plus the hanging feeder can hold another 5 and the squirrel feeder another five or six.

A male common merganser at the river the other day.

Like most finches, they are nervous eaters, so it doesn’t take much to scare them away and there is this huge cloud of birds taking off through the trees at an amazing speed. But they are back again in a few minutes. It does give me some time to refill the feeders before they return, so it’s handy. Still a lot of juncos and some fox sparrows around. Some sparrows are going to be very late if they don’t show up soon. They are already later than normal. Kind of odd considering we had an early spring with the snow gone extra early this year.

Baxter the blue jay after a tough day of nest building.

But then that cold weather returned and stopped the migration. That means when it starts up again, the birds will be moving through fast this year which doesn’t give me much time for pics. So hopefully the days will be sunny when that migration begins again. We did get some purple finches arrive on our lone warm day, at least two males and a female. And those males are such a bright red, but I haven’t been able to get a pic yet. Maybe this morning, which is almost over now. By the time I sat down to do my post, I didn’t have an internet connection again.

More of the male evening grosbeaks.

That is happening a lot lately. So off I went to do something else which ended up taking longer than I expected, which is kind of normal for me, and when I came back it was working again. I hope it stays that way now. It is a beautiful sunny morning, but cool, we might get into the low 40s today. I should probably try and get some pics of those beautiful red male purple finches, before they fly away. I hope you all have a spectacular Saturday and God bless!

    • Good morning Simon!๐Ÿ˜ƒ Wow, it’s been one of those days! Ever have one of those days?๐Ÿค” This has been one of those days.๐Ÿ™„ That bear was around and charged me while I was outside taking pics.๐Ÿ˜ฒ๐Ÿป He ran over from the neighbors yard, climbed up the deck (8ft high) and I just barely got inside and closed the door and he was at the door!๐Ÿ˜ณ๐Ÿ˜ฌ๐Ÿป That was too close. I went out later and he tried charging me 4 more times. Not good at all. How am I supposed to walk to the river?๐Ÿค”๐Ÿšถโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿšถโ€โ™‚๏ธ He might run at me from behind. But then, it’s no safer out here either.๐Ÿ™„๐Ÿป Oh well. Fun day. Or not. Enjoy your Sunday!๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜บ๐ŸŒž๐Ÿป

      • That’s terrible ๐Ÿ˜ณ bear taking up charge on you ๐Ÿ˜ฐ๐Ÿ˜ฑ๐Ÿ˜ฑ๐Ÿ˜ฑ Thank god you are safe, that’s such a terrific experience. Did you get help? Did you informed anyone about this ๐Ÿค” forest officers someone like that . That’s definitely not fun, you should make someone to keep the bears off from your place. It’s a complete lockdown Sunday ๐Ÿ˜ณ๐Ÿ™„ and lot more rules coming ahead ๐Ÿ˜ second wave is terrific, corona is everywhere.๐Ÿ™„. Wondering when all this will change.

      • Forestry officers won’t do anything because it’s in town.๐Ÿ™„ Police won’t do anything because they say it’s my fault for feeding the birds which is attracting the bears.๐Ÿ˜ณ๐Ÿป The town says it’s a police problem.๐Ÿ˜’๐Ÿ™„ Sigh. So nothing gets done.๐Ÿ˜’ I will just have to be more careful. I see it’s getting real bad there in India.๐Ÿ˜ฌ Be extra careful Simon, don’t forget that mask!๐Ÿคจ And wash your hands often. Use 2 masks even, that’s what I do now.๐Ÿ˜ท๐Ÿ˜ท

      • Yes, there are too many bears around now and there is not enough natural food to support them,๐Ÿ˜ฌ so they come into town looking for food.๐Ÿ˜ฒ I will try to stay away from Bert,๐Ÿป I am carrying my bear spray with me every time I go outside now.๐Ÿ˜ณ๐Ÿป๐Ÿ™€

      • It’s very strong stuff that temporarily makes it go blind and stops it from smelling so it won’t go after the person. It doesn’t actually hurt the bear, after 20 or 30 minutes it wears off and it’s okay again. It has something in it to calm the bear too so it will just usually lie down until it wears off. It can actually kill people though, so I can’t carry it walking on the streets. I had to get special permission and a police check just to buy it and allow me to carry it when I go walking.๐Ÿ™‚๐Ÿ™€๐Ÿป

  4. those are some wonderful photos of such colorful birds. I especially liked the blue jay picture. Hopefully your Internet is back up and running; and hopefully the bear has run away to somewhere else…
