Steve and Muffin’s Wildflowers #7.
Hi everyone and welcome back to our wildflower series! Our wildflower today is the “pale corydalis”. This is a beautiful flower about an inch (2.5cm) long and the plant can grow from 12 to 24 inches (30-60cm) tall in this area. Some places apparently it can grow taller. It is found right across Canada into Alaska and down into the north and eastern US. It prefers dry, poor soil conditions and often grows out of just a crack in the rock. They are amazingly hardy wildflowers and have a long blooming period from the end of May to September in our area. Each plant will produce many flowers over the course of the summer and even though they might seemingly dry out during a prolonged dry spell, they will come back again when the rain returns. They also prefer sunny locations or places with just a little shade, they don’t like shady spots. They are often one of the earliest to return after a forest fire goes through an area.

That’s the way they are Simon, they hang down a little bit. They are such a beautiful flower! And such an odd color combination for us.
