For a smile as wide as a country sunrise
Good morning and Happy Sunday everyone! It’s another wet morning, plus today it’s cold with a strong north wind. It’s only 40F (4.7C) and with that wind, it feels rather cold. I wore my jacket going out to feed Sir George this morning. I will be showing nice sunny flower pics today, a good thing to have when it’s this kind of weather. My flowers certainly don’t look so nice right now, but they should perk up once we get dome dry weather. It might be a while before that happens however. The birds keep coming and looking for food, so sad. But the squirrels, chipmunks and blue jays are being fed since they all like the same food, peanuts.
And if I spot the chickadees, I go out with seeds on my hand and they come down right away, landing on my hand and taking away their prize to eat it in the bush out back here. So they still get some food too, I just have to watch for them. And, of course, watch for Bert while I’m standing out there. But they chickadees usually just take 2 seeds each and there are 4 chickadees, so it doesn’t take long at least. And it is fun having them land on my hand. We did get a couple hours of sunshine of Friday so I was out getting pictures of the flowers that are blooming right now.
There isn’t much happening yet, but the flowers are starting which is nice. And there are 2 male hummingbirds still and they are constantly chasing each other. I haven’t seen any females yet though. Jasmine was here eating peanuts and Freddie came along again. He doesn’t learn too quickly. Hi Freddie, be careful, Jasmine is here, and don’t hurt her. Chip. You want me to tell her not to hurt you? I did try already, but she is the top female, you have to respect the order. Chip. You don’t think it’s fair? Well, it’s like when you took over as top squirrel, now someone else has that spot. Chip. Why doesn’t Jasmine chase Jasper? You’ll have to ask Jasmine.
Just then Jasmine comes streaking across the deck and Freddie jumps straight up and runs for his life up the hill with Jasmine right behind him. She comes back. Chip. He wanted me to ask you not to hurt him. Chip, chip, chip, chip. You shouldn’t laugh at poor Freddie like that, you’ll get indigestion. She goes back to eating. Freddie comes back but stays on the ground looking for seeds. Looks like he found Jasper instead. Look at them hugging and rolling around on the ground. Freddie breaks free and runs for his life up the hill with Jasper right on his tail. There is still some fun to watch out here. Have a sunshiny Sunday everyone and God bless!

Dahlias are beautiful flowers and normally are very big, but these are a small variety for growing in containers, perfect on a deck like this! Have a great Monday Simon!ππΊπββ

it must be nice when things are almost back to normal, and no Bert there today!

I’m still nervous to be out on the deck too long, even with the bear spray handy. Too cold out there today anyway. But there is more natural food for Bert now so hopefully he will stay away.

fingers crossed that Bert funds those sources of natural food…

I’m sure he will, just have to see if it will be enough to keep him away from here.
