Thursday’s Thoughts #16.

Good morning everyone! It’s a beautiful morning here, so nice out on the deck with my cup of coffee listening to…um…the cars drive by. Well, there really isn’t much happening out here this morning. The family of chickadees was here briefly, but they just left. There was one gull here this morning, that was Sir George. The family of crows was here briefly finishing the food that Sir George left behind. And one chipmunk is here, Coffee, which is really odd. By now all 9 of them should be out here furiously trying to get as many peanuts and sunflower seeds as they can before the other chipmunks. So strangely quiet out here this morning that it’s eerie. Maybe everyone is just sleeping late today.

A young white-throated sparrow preening it’s feathers.

But that doesn’t make sense, it’s hot these days, and mornings are the coolest part of the day and that normally means it’s the busy time during hot weather. Speaking of weather, it’s going to get cool this weekend with temperatures dipping down to the mid 60sF (17C). That’s going to feel cold after these few days of heat. A gradual change wouldn’t be so bad, but those sudden one day changes are hard, and also gives a sudden increase in my pain level. Speaking of hot, they haven’t been updating our forest fire news much lately, but we are down to 99 fires now, 77 are still not under control, 22 are under control or are being held. With all the fires combined, a total of 1.78 million acres have burned, 28% of that total from one fire.

Here it is shaking it’s wings after preening.

The cool weather and showers that are coming should put a stop to these fires. I will admit, I’m not really looking forward to saying good bye to summer. But it was a very nice summer this year, even though the bears did kind of spoil a large part of it. Seems like all the chipmunks are here now, guess they were sleeping late today. How odd. The clouds have moved away now and the sun is shining nicely through a layer of smoke. But the smoke is high, so it doesn’t bother us down here at all. I’m not getting any new pics lately, not much action around the house, not even with insects. I’m going to miss the late summer dragonflies, they don’t come around the yard, they stick to their own habitat, which is along the path to the river. Oh well, there’s always next year. I hope. Have a wonderful day everyone and God bless!
