Saturday’s Solitude #18.

Good morning and Happy Saturday everyone! It is a cool, cloudy and very wet morning here again. It rained overnight, close to half an inch (11mm). We’re supposed to get some more later today and tomorrow. But, if the forecast holds, it should be partly sunny on Monday and Tuesday, then it will return to showers for the rest of the week. This is shaping up to be a wet fall. That’s the way it was two years ago.

A white pelican gliding silently past down at the river during the summer.

It gets very slippery back on that path and hills when it stays wet like that. I haven’t gone down to the river since July 26. As you know, it’s the bear situation that has kept me from walking to the river, which I think was a bad decision on my part. Now summer is over and photo opportunities will be limited down there, but it should still be better than here. So hopefully on Monday I can walk down there before it starts getting too wet.

A place at the river where the white pelicans like to gather.

Speaking of bears, there was one around again last night. I could actually feel the apartment shake as it walked on the deck, so I’m thinking it was the biggest of the three that come around. That one is about 400 to 500 pounds. That’s rather large. But I have never seen that one during the day, only at night. I’m fine with that. Oh well, only winter will put an end to those bears.

Even though it’s cool and wet outside, it still smells so fresh and nice. The blue jays are busy calling to each other. Yesterday I counted 5 babies, now grown up, and 6 adults. There should be more young ones around, unless they didn’t have a good nesting this year. Having 2 or 3 babies seems to be normal here. Yesterday 3 of the young stayed together, while the other 2 stayed together. So each group was obviously from the same nest. Those young ones were fun to watch. They got along with the chipmunks quite nicely too.

Baxter the blue jay patiently waiting for me to toss a peanut to him.

There’s no wind right now, the leaves are completely still and quiet. The chickadees are talking to each other with their tiny chirp. Blue jays are calling in the distance. I think my sparrows have gone, I haven’t seen even one this morning. There were at least 3 families yesterday. Right now only the chipmunks remain and they are out of food at the moment. Look at that. A squirrel is picking the nuts off that walnut tree out back. Amazing he can carry those big walnuts. Even in town we can enjoy some quiet solitude along with the little critters. Well, time for more coffee. Have a wonderful day everyone and God bless!

    • Good afternoon to you John! Thanks so much. Well, that ‘long Covid’, as they call it now, is still affecting me, this week it has hit me hard again. But I think it’s slowly getting better, hard to tell sometimes. Glad to have you back again John and thanks so much!😁😺

    • I have to admit, I really wouldn’t want to meet a bear back on the river trail, but it also means waiting now until winter. Sigh. Aside from less pictures, it also means less to write about. I’ll have to strain my brain and try to think of something I guess.

  1. Looks like the prediction matches for us too. It was partly sunny, now raining, mostly cloudy😮. and floods 😵. I hate it when water clogs on our small roads. There are many works happening on our roads often and one could easily bury inside if the water is full 😳 that’s why I hate this place. Blue Jays … yay!!! thats nice, Baxter is cute😍❤️ now I remember a page for a chipmunk, Charlie the chipmunk on instagram, where the human says Charlie freeze and the chipmunk just stops eating, charlie froze! that’s amazing 😍 if you are on instagram, take a look at charlie ☺️ I adore that beautiful little chipmunk you will love it too☺️Have a lovely day Uncle Steve 🥳

    • Well, it turned out sunny here this afternoon and warmer than the forecast,🌞😎 so that was nice. I was on instagram, but then closed it,😕 now I wanted to get back on and I can’t.😐 Sigh. It says I’m already there,🙄 but I’m not because when I try to open my old account it says I’m not there.😳🙄 If I want to start new it says I’m there already so I can’t.🤪🤯 So confusing. Makes me jump up and down, pull my hair and bang my head on the wall.🤪🤪 Then fall down with a big headache!😱 Charlie is a good name for a chipmunk, why didn’t I think of that?🤔🙄 It has been a good day even though I’m not feeling good. Good night Simon, or good morning, or both.🤯🤯🌞🌙😂😂

      • Not feeling good? did you go for a check up? You should try to recover your password or click forgot password to find a new password. Charlie is definitely a nice name 🥰 . Have a good Sunday 🥳🤗

      • No checkup, that would mean going to the hospital and I don’t want to do that, that’s a good place to get sick.😬😱 I have tried but for some reason I can’t get a new password, something’s not working,🤔🙄 but I’ll try again. It’s a great day! Good night Simon!😁🌙😴

  3. That bear seems scary! Seems it doesn’t belong so close to where people live. If you closed your Instagram account temporarily, you should be able to reactivate it. If you closed it permanently, you have to start a new account. 🐻☕️☕️🥞 🧇 🥓

    • Yes, I don’t like having that big bear around. But they don’t like to relocate bears anymore because it doesn’t work, they keep coming back, which is true. Sigh.
I thought I close it permanently, but it says I didn’t, but when I try to reactivate it, then it tells me it was closed. But I’ll try again tomorrow. I always have weird problems it seems.🙄🐻😬🙀☕☕
