For a smile as wide as a country sunrise
Good morning everyone and Happy Friday to you as well! It is a glorious morning here today, mild, clear sky, and the sun will be shining all day again like it was yesterday. It was absolutely beautiful yesterday, sunny, a bit windy and a high of 46F (8C), which might seem a bit cool for some of you, but for us in November that is very warm! And very enjoyable too. So I tried to spend as much time as possible outside, enjoying the sunshine, getting some things done out there before winter shows up, and of course, enjoying all the birds that were around. I also spent a fair amount of time getting some new pictures as well.
It was the same birds, just new pictures. The redpolls wouldn’t come down out of the trees, too many seeds up in the birch and lilac trees still which is keeping them busy. The seeds are just the right size for those tiny birds. Oh, there was a nice flock of about 12 red crossbills that flew overhead yesterday too. That would be fantastical to have them stop in at my feeder! I have had them do so in the past, but they are very unpredictable birds. They seem quite content to sit up in the spruce and balsam trees opening their cones for the nutritious, but small, seeds inside. I would love to get a picture of them though, they are incredibly interesting birds.
Jasper was back yesterday and it was nice so I sat and talked to him. “How’s it going Jasper?” Chip. “Oh, you’re hiding so you don’t want me to talk loud. Isn’t that what you said last time?” Chip. “Oh, Jasmine’s been asking why you’re out so much each day. What did you tell her?” Chip. “You told her you’re working? Working to expand your waist maybe.” Loud chip. “Oh, sorry, Jasmine has been saying that too. She wants you to lose a couple ounces? Guess it’s back to running in the trees.” Chip. “Oh, that’s starting tomorrow. Well, the weather is nice anyway.” Loud chip. “Oh, it’s too warm for running with that heavy winter coat? Are you sure it’s the heavy coat?” Chip. “I’m sorry, didn’t realize you were so sensitive about your weight.” Chip. “Eating is your only pleasure?”
Chip. “You didn’t realize married life was so complicated? Um, Jasper, you’re a squirrel.” Chip. “No, don’t cry, here, have another peanut. Oh, it sounds like another squirrel chattering.” Chip. “That’s Jasmine? She has a loud chatter. Maybe you better go.” Chip. “Bye Jasper.” I also saw Slim trying to cross the street yesterday. If that car hadn’t swerved he would have been flattened raven food. He ran back and up the walnut tree a bit, but he came back down and quickly ran across without looking. It was scary. One of these days he won’t make it. I hope I’m not around when it happens. Well, it’s going to be another beautiful, warm day. I’m looking forward to it! Have a fantastical Friday everyone and God bless!

He’s definitely looking chubby these days. Jasmine needs to get him out running through the trees again!
Slim is taking chances, one of these times he won’t make it. I have lost a few squirrels crossing that street.

maybe Jasper is just bulking up for the winter…

Yep, that’s actually what he’s doing, a typical squirrel way of dealing with winter.
