For a smile as wide as a country sunrise
Good morning everyone! It is a beautiful, cloudy and rather cool morning here today. And we are expecting another inch of snow today as well. Not really anything to get excited about, just a little extra to add to what we have already. Chickadees were here first again this morning, followed by the blue jays. One of my white-breasted nuthatches showed up yesterday for a short visit, it was nice to see it was still around. I hope the others are as well. The nuthatches add a little extra fun at the feeders during the winter. The red-breasted nuthatches were here yesterday as well. And, amazingly, there were 4 robins here yesterday in the cherry tree next door.
I went out to get a picture of them but they flew as soon as they saw me. Sigh. Hopefully they will head south quickly while the weather is still nice, and not get stuck here for the winter. There were 6 deer here yesterday as well, one young buck, 3 does, and two fawns. One of those fawns was the one that was hit by the car a while back and tossed into the air. He seems to be doing very well and full of energy, which is certainly nice to see. The chickadees and nuthatches have been enjoying the suet I made for them. Oddly, the woodpecker has not tried it out yet, instead she is going after the sunflower seeds like she normally does.
Guess it is not cold enough yet to go after the suet. Well, there has not been any bear activity since our snowstorm so I hope that means they have gone into hibernation. Usually snowstorms will do that for the bears. I think they could sense that storm coming which is why they were so active around here those last few nights before the storm. Now I’m waiting for them to get the trail to the river open so I can get back to some real walking again. I am certainly looking forward to getting back down there to enjoy the bird activity along the river, and hopefully meet up with Scramble again, my friendly squirrel along the way. It is always nice to add some different winter activity to the list. Well, I hope you all have a sunny Sunday and God bless!
Steve and Muffin.

Yes, we are supposed to get a bit of snow too, nothing much though. It was nice watching all the deer out there, too bad it wasn’t a bit brighter so I could get some good photos. Have a great afternoon!ππ»ββ

sounds like you are getting around pretty good after your fall. Hopefully the bears are gone until Spring and you can walk to the river…

Well, I’m not doing much except looking after the feeders. Fortunately that doesn’t require much activity on a normal day. Doesn’t look like they have the trail open yet, but hopefully soon!

fingers crossed on the trail opening soon…

Yes indeed! I was hoping it would be open this weekend, but it didn’t happen.

maybe they just to be extra sure that the bears are gone…

Perhaps, they have been known to stay around after the first snow, doesn’t happen often, but it can.
