Looking At Insects. #5 Fly.
Good morning to everyone! Things are a little different this morning, but since I am out shopping, or will be shortly, I thought this might be a good way to do things. Today we have a real pest insect, especially if you enjoy walking through the woods this time of the year. And suddenly there is a fly buzzing around your head and you know right away what it is, the deer fly. They do come in a few different shades of color and different wing patterns, but they are all deer flies, and when they bite, it is quite noticeable.
For a fly that is not really too big, they sure take a big chunk of skin off a person! I know that horse flies are worse for biting, and bigger, but they are not as pesty as these, at least not up here. Except of course closer to water areas, like beaches. I never see any by the river, though they do show up along the path. This one decided to bite me while I was taking a picture of butterfly. I missed the butterfly but got this fly instead. Only the females bite, the males spend their days feasting on nectar and pollen. Have a great day and God bless!

Looks similar to the house fly i kill everyday on this season 😂. But if it takes a small patch of skin, we should be more careful with these around. Hope u are safe from this, btw what it is doing on your skin 😵🤔😑 Stay safe ,🙂Have a good day, 🤩 Happy Shopping. ☺️

It was just helping herself to my blood!😬😄 I didn’t even know she was on me until I stood up.🤔 Sadly she did not get to enjoy her meal for long, she had an untimely death.🙄 Now I have an itchy spot to deal with!😂😹📷🌞😮

No, no, it was accidental.😒😼 She just didn’t get out of the way of my thumb, deciding to take a chance instead which resulted in accidental suicide. So you see, it’s not my fault.😂😂😹😹

I had a storm front come through just as the finishing touches were being put on the shrub project! Very windy and a 5 minute down pour… 🌧 🌦

I saw a Loon on the lake on Saturday doing something I had never seen them do before. It sitting there with its Beek open.. not making a sound just open mouthed..

Maybe it had a fish stuck in it’s throat. It happens when its a bit bigger than normal. The fish that is.

Well, sometimes what happens is loons chase after the minnows used by fisherpeople and end up with hooks stuck in their throat. Sometimes people will even try to deliberately try to catch a loon that way. An activity that will land them in jail up here.

It was, we had 3 storms today, one storm gave us 2 inches of rain in 40 minutes, plus an amazing amount of lightning and thunder, 2 hit right close by. Had a bit of hail too, nothing serious though.😬⛈️⛈️🙀

Yeah, there sure was lots to watch today. The lightning and thunder started an hour before the storm actually hit us! Poor Muffin was not impressed.🙀🙀⛈️⛈️

I did read the first post just shortly before I read today’s chapter. I did not write a reply to it though. Although the flowers were very beautiful. How did that European flower get to North America?🤔 Did someone purposely bring it with them to plant here?🙄🤔 🪴

Probably it was deliberately brought, like many of our non native wildflowers that came from Europe. People wanted to have some reminders of where they came from, some of these flowers are good to eat or have medicinal properties. They were planted in gardens and escaped after time. Most of them arrived in the late 1800s.😁

Good, great, terrific! I walked to the river today, had some trouble getting back though, my legs didn’t want to cooperate too well. Oh, something happened too, um, kinda interesting in an odd sort of way.🤔🙄😬

Yes I did, but no it wasn’t. Good question and nothing at the time. Well, I stopped shortly after the beginning of the trail and took some pics of mushrooms growing on a large dead branch on the ground. Then I kept walking down the trail about a hundred feet and heard some kind of crunching, like old wood breaking. I looked around but saw nothing so kept on with my walk…

Yeah, so I went to the river and never heard anything more. I came back to that spot where I had seen the mushrooms and there was a big old log lying beside that spot. Well, it had been all torn apart! Therefore after I left that spot earlier a bear had torn that log apart, that was the crunching I heard! That was also kinda close.😬😬🐻

I haven’t seen a horse fly for quite some time. They are more prevalent in Montana than here in central Ohio.
