Looking At Insects. #13 Scarab.

Good morning!

Today we have a rather unusual beetle that is also a bee mimic. That just means it looks somewhat like a bee, in this case a bumble bee. This is the “Hairy Flower Scarab”, which is a beetle really. But they fly and buzz just like a bumble bee which is what I thought it was at first as it buzzed around me. The wing covers on the back are black, or sometimes brown, with white stripes. They are about 5/8 inch (15mm) long. They travel around through the day from flower to flower getting at the sweet nectar. For us they are common in June and July. Have a great day everyone and God bless!

      • Oh, guess you didn’t read about my tumble down the hill on Tuesday. It isn’t a large hill, but it is solid granite and the pain caused me to scream out loud. I was able to get out today for a drive to some lakes with a friend, but that was too soon getting out and even though I did not walk around much it left me very stiff with increased pain again. I will need to rest longer now.😟

      • I can understand that Ribana, I am very much behind in reading too. For me it is hard in summer since I like to be outside as much as possible. Thank you so much, I hope you can rest and get over this Covid quickly. Take care Ribana!😊😻🌞

    • We actually have at least 2 in our area, but this is the only one I have seen. Although I may have seen the other one before and did not know what it was.
