Looking At Insects. #23 Butterfly.

Hello once again everyone! I hope your day is going well.

Today we have another butterfly to share in our series, this one is the “Checkered White”. It is the first time I have seen this species of butterfly, in late August. I have seen other butterflies in the “Whites” family, but this one is a first. That made it even more enjoyable to photograph, though it did not want to cooperate and I could not get a picture with her wings spread open completely.

This is the female, males have no pattern on the hindwings and less pattern on the forewings than the female. This butterflies have a long season, from late June to early October. They overwinter as a chrysalis, and have 2 broods per summer. The wingspan is about 2 inches (5cm). Have a great day everyone and God bless!
