For a smile as wide as a country sunrise
Good morning to you all! It is a cold morning with a temp rounding out at -28F (-33C). It is cold. Plus we had more snow overnight so I had to go out early and clean off all the bird feeders so that everything would be ready for the birds when they arrived. Poor little birds. Their legs and feet were completely hidden by feathers this morning, so it looked like they were bouncing around on their tummies. It seems to be hardest on the nuthatches. They have to show their feet and legs while getting at the suet, which is mainly what they want in this cold weather.

But they have to stop and sit on the railing covering those feet and legs to warm them up before going after the suet again. And the suet is hard on these cold days, so they really have to pound away at it to get anything. But all the birds are affected, they all need to puff out those feathers to keep legs and feet warm. And it will be a bit colder the next couple of nights, and days. The joys of winter. It does look nice outside with all that new snow, about 10 inches of it.
But it only looks nice from inside. It is too cold to enjoy anything outside. Some people say they enjoy this kind of cold, but honestly, there is nothing a person can do outside that is really enjoyable when it is cold. Unless a person enjoys freezing. By the time I have enough clothes on to go outside, I can barely move. Even with the warmest clothes, it is still cold. However, this still is not that cold, it can get much colder yet.

Last winter we hit well below -40. Who knows, we might get there this winter also. But it is great weather to stay inside and drink some nice hot coffee! All day long. Well, sometimes I switch to nice hot chocolate. For me, any day is a good day for coffee, but these cold days just call out of coffee! So I listen and keep that coffee pot going. Well, I think it must be time for another cup of coffee, would anyone else like a cup? Have a wonderful, warm, Wednesday and God bless!

Hi everyone! Here we have another of our favorites, a male hairy woodpecker collecting sunflower seeds for his hungry brood. Both the male and female spent several days gathering seeds to feed those hungry babies until they were ready to fly, then they brought the babies along with them. Have a great day and God bless!
