For a smile as wide as a country sunrise
Good morning everyone on this beautiful Wednesday evening which is also the first Wednesday of March which is the month of spring! Sort of. Like all the seasons, around here they don’t come and go with the calendar. They just come and go…whenever. The last 2 years spring has come rather late. Very late in fact.

Snow should not be on the ground at the end of April. But that has been the case the last 2 years. Snow should be gone by about April 7, give or take a day or two. I’m strange. I keep track of things like that. Why? Who knows? It’s just me. Plus it goes well with birding. That is the proper name instead of ‘birdwatching’.
A look around town…
I thought you might like to see a bit of what it looks like here in the winter. We did get a bit more snow after these pics were taken, but it gives you an idea anyway.

Fortunately the snow is hauled away from main streets, otherwise it would be single lane traffic only by now. And that would not be much fun. Makes it hard to get around. Now don’t get the idea it looks like this all the time. Sometimes it’s worse. And normally it’s only for about 5 months. Or so. However, winter started a bit early this year with 9 inches of snow arriving on October 10. Really, our winter usually starts with snow arriving around the beginning of November. Sigh.
Enough of that…
I didn’t go out for any photo opportunities today. It was just too cold. So here I sit at my desk, sipping hot chocolate, dreaming of a nice log cabin, with a stone fireplace, the fire crackling away, the heat radiating in all directions, a wool rug in front, with Muffin curled up enjoying the heat as much as me. Dreams can be nice. But, reality is what it is.

And I am cold. Even with the hot chocolate. The sun is very warm now since it is so high in the sky. This apartment has large windows facing south and west. So the sun really gets in here during the afternoon. Amazingly that keeps it just warm enough in here that my heater will not come on. Until now. That’s okay in the living room, but the bedroom gets very cool. Oh well.
It is 6:05 pm…
The sun has just gone down below the trees on the far hill. The last of the chickadees have just left for wherever they spend the night. A raven has just flown low over the feeder to see if anything is left for his bedtime snack. Nothing. So off he goes to his place to sleep for the night.

The small birds will be back by 6:30 am tomorrow for another day of fun and feeding. Hmm, I was hoping for a nice red sunset, but like the raven, I was disappointed. There was just the right amount of clouds to produce a spectacular glow. Oh well. Perhaps another time.
The menu bar…
At the top of my home page will take you to other exciting pages on my little site. Feel free to check them out. I will try to add some new items to each page every week. Barring technical difficulties. Which seem to come around more frequently these days.
But…
Spring is coming! I just pray it will be a little earlier this year. Sigh. Oh, that’s right. I meant to talk about break ins today. Rats, gnats and blueberry bats! Okay. Friday for sure. Too late now. Soooo, until then I hope you will all have a fantastic couple of days, bye for now, and God bless!

Hey Steve! I had so much fun reading this ha ha it felt like we were hanging out drinking cocoa.
The snow is so pretty! Except we would die in Texas if the scenery looked anything like this 🤣🤣 let’s just say I can live the rest of your snow day vicariously through your blog 👌 thanks!

Thanks so much for your nice comment! Yes, I imagine it would be quite devastating to get this much snow, it’s not easy here! I was in northern Texas once, Dallas/Denton areas, nice and warm at the end of March. Kind of flat though, I’m used to hills, rocks, lakes and trees! Enjoy your evening!

What amazing snow sculptures, Steve – and, as always, your bird pics are amazing! Your birding comment reminded me of the movie “The Big Year” – a total fav watched multiple times. Have you seen it? Birding blessings!❄️ 🕊❄️

True, I am always amazed at how people can do things like that without being able to draw out a diagram first. Thanks for the comment Lydia!

Do you guys have ice sculptures, too? So neat. ☺️

No ice sculptures, just snow, though they are nearly hard as ice.

Thanks Tebatjo! I am always amazed at how people can do such things, they don’t draw out any kind of design to follow. I hope you will have a wonderful day, God bless!

This hot chocolate is different than regular, no gluten or dairy, I don’t think there is even chocolate, but it has the taste.😀
