Is It The End?

Hello to all my faithful readers around the world!  No, I’m not talking about my blog.  Though I might be making some changes to my site soon.  I’m talking about our summer.  It came to a rather abrupt end this week.  It was still quite nice on Tuesday, but by Wednesday things changed.  We have entered early fall now.  It is much cooler and these cool temps are supposed to stay with us, except for tomorrow when it should be warmer. Summer is just so short.  Only 2 months this year.

After 7 months of winter, 2 months of summer is, well, short.  Some of you might like that, many people here enjoy the cool weather.  Maybe I’m just odd.  Okay, I will change that to, I’m just odd.  I like warm weather.  Just the way it is.  I’m not going to change just because I’m in the minority.  I’m going to have a post soon talking about that.  Not weather, but change.  Or perhaps I should say, no change.

But it is a beautiful sunny morning!  It is, however, time to wear a jacket.  With this change in weather comes other changes.  More and more of our birds are becoming silent, no singing, just quieter chirps.  And the smaller birds are flocking now, which just means they are all getting together in larger groups, flocks, getting ready to head south.  Some birds have gone already.  Our nighthawks are gone.  Very early again this year.  They are one of the key bird species I watch each year to figure out what our winter will be like.  The are right 9 times out of 10.  They normally leave around mid August.  Last year was the earliest ever, August 1.  This year they left August 2.  That could mean another early and long winter ahead.

Sir George and Lady Pearl haven’t been around for 2 days.  That would be early for them to leave as well.  Herman is still here.  He is another herring gull, not as big as Sir George. But he does stay longer.  Not sure what happened to all my squirrels lately, I had 4 of them.  Now there is only Choco left.  And she only comes early in the morning, and some days not at all.  I think I mentioned already that Sylvester was killed trying to cross the street.  Cars and chipmunks don’t mix.  Rusty is still here.  Plus, Skamper and Checker came back.  I don’t know where they have been until now, but they are back, actually since the beginning of the month.  So that is very nice.

I’m just kind of rambling again this morning.  Don’t worry, I haven’t forgotten about part 2 from our fishing adventure begun yesterday.  It’s coming.  Very soon.  Yesterday I kind of played a tourist.  I went on our tour boat and got a lot of pictures from the northern part of this big lake.  This lake is more than 4,300 km2 in size, with over 14,500 islands, and 105,000 km (65,000 miles) of shoreline.  There are areas on this big lake that never freeze, even in the coldest weather.  That’s due to the strong currents in certain areas between islands.  I will be taking you on this tour at some point so you can see more of the area where I live.

  1. When I read the title, I got really worried! I did not want your blog to end…not ever!
    Thank goodness, it’s the summer. At our place, it’s raining a lot too and hardly the sun peeps out. Our exams have came to a halt so I can enjoy time here too 🙂

    • No need to worry. I’m not going anywhere, I will likely be here for a long time. I wish our summer would do the same!🌞 Glad you are getting a little break in your exams too,😀 you can relax for a bit, maybe draw Muffin.😺 Hope your day is great!!😃😺🌳

      • Happiness, like all emotions, comes and goes with everyone and should never be based on things or circumstances, though it usually is. Joy on the other hand is not an emotion, but comes from the heart and that joy can be with us all the time, whether things are good or bad. But likes and dislikes are not tied to either. Enjoy your day!

  3. Steve thank you for the tour and pics! I’m glad I can observe your world from a “warm place,” without having to put a jacket on! So sorry your summer was cut so short! 😿 And RIP Sylvester! I’m just now hearing about this news…I guess I have missed some of your posts. When I get time will go and catch up, but it will be another busy day for me today…so soon. Hope you and Muffin have a great day!

  4. Hey Steve! well the title was a worrying title. But not the content. Sad that u love summer but it lasts only 2 months and early fall is too bad. Hope the summer comes back asap.. For us it’s monsoon time.in my native place so cold and wet ✨😉 It’s okay… it’s nature and we have to adapt to this…✨🙂 Have a great weekend…

    • I wasn’t really thinking when I wrote the title since I knew what I was going to talk about.😀 I’ll have to be more careful, several people had the same idea.🤔True, we get the weather that comes, but I still prefer a warm place!😂😂😹😹Hope your day is going great!😃😺🌞🌳

      • U must shift to Chennai then ✨😉 Warmer Warm all the months 😂😂 Only two months of cold and rain, so you will end up falling in love ✨😉 sadly nothing to explore here except buildings and stray dogs 😜..

      • Actually exploring buildings can be a lot of fun!😃 Stray dogs on the other hand…😬
        I have a slight fear of dogs due to being attacked by a large dog when I was 4 or 5.😲 Not as bad as it used to be though.
        I know where I would like to go,🤔 but moving out of the country has its problems unfortunately.😕

  7. You’re not odd. Canada is just too darn cold and I’m sure most Canadians would agree with that. In theory, Canada sounds like a great place to live. In reality, it’s cold. It’s 15C in Calgary today so I guess beach season is over for us as well.

    • I agree, it is a cold country. Though around here everyone I know prefers temps to be between 15 and 20 for summer.😲 So I feel like the odd one.😂 Glad to know there are others that feel the same as me, now I don’t have to feel so odd!😃 Have a great evening Hilary!😀😺🌞🌳

  9. Winter is my favourite season…but I admit that our summer has gone by too quickly ! Perhaps our fall will be warmer than usual !

  11. Always sad to know summer is leaving! It’s getting shorter each year 😕 well I hate cold also so I can understand the frustration
    These planes are amazing to have a ride in this beautiful nature! The fountain is great as well 👍
    Birds are leaving and squirrels and chipmunks not around, it feels sad for sure and it’s really a very short summer
    Gladly you could have some good pictures for the cold and hard days and being a tourist in your country is great also 🌞🌞😊

    • Summer is getting shorter each year it seems, and winter is getting longer. Some leaves are even starting to turn yellow already, much too early. Sometimes it’s nice playing a tourist even if I’m not going anywhere!🤪🙄 Skamper is the only chipmunk I have seen for a couple days now,🙂 I hope nothing has happened to Rusty.😕Hope tomorrow is a good day!😄😸🌞🌳🐿

      • It’s really sad let’s hope you will have some warm and sunny days from time to time
        Hopefully Rusty is good and nothing happened to him 😕 hard to lose one of these animals or birds after long companionship

      • I have had no contact with Ilona since she shut down her blog. She also deleted her instagram and changed her email. So I have no way to contact her and she hasn’t contacted me either. Hopefully she is feeling better, less stress now.

      • I have no idea really. Well, I know that too many people knew her email so I can understand why she would want to change it. But it was kind of odd and very sudden.

    • I chose the wrong title, everyone was thinking that. I was just thinking about summer when I wrote the title! It was nice to read how so many were relieved I wasn’t stopping anyway. I imagine I will be around for a long time yet! Thanks for reading and I hope your evening is great!😃😺
