For a smile as wide as a country sunrise
Good morning on this beautiful, and now sunny, Wednesday! Time for a cup of coffee to enjoy our morning together. Well, the sun has been trying hard to break up those clouds this morning and the sky is now almost completely blue. But there are still some clouds in the east that keep blocking the sun though they are slowly moving away also. It is a good thing that house wren is out here singing or it would sure be quiet.
There was a robin singing earlier this morning, but he is always further away. The blue jays have been busy this morning, plus at least 3 chipmunks. Yesterday there were 4 chipmunks around, Choco, Crunchy, Pocket and Skitter. I have lost nearly all of my birds now, though a pair of chickadees and a pair of nuthatches still come around now and then.
Not feeding regularly stops the birds from coming quite quickly. Sigh. Grackles and cowbirds do not give up easily though, although I wish the cowbirds would leave. We had a light shower this morning so it looked very nice with the sun shining on all those wet leaves, but they have dried off almost totally now. Wildflowers are blooming in abundance this year and garden flowers are beginning to bloom as well.
Dragonflies have begun coming out, probably have been for a while actually but since I have not been walking to the river I have missed some of the earliest ones. But they have started to show up in the yard now, though I have not been very successful in getting pictures. I will try again today, hopefully the sun will stay shining long enough. Dragonflies look so much more colorful with the sun shining on them.
After having such a dark day yesterday with those heavy clouds, the brightness of today is very pleasant indeed. Unfortunately it is supposed to get very windy later or I would try a walk to the river today. Perhaps on Friday, which will be our next sunny day. Hmm, something is bothering one of the chipmunks, that would likely be the cat from next door.
I sure hope he doesn’t catch any of my chipmunks. Maybe he has already and that is why some chipmunks are missing. Sigh. Well, guess it is time to take a walk around the yard and see what pics I can find out there. Today we have some more wildflowers from our trip last week which I hope you will enjoy. Top featured image are apple blossoms. Have a great day everyone and God bless!

Yep, a house wren is a bird, very tiny, about the size of our hummingbirds, and that is small! Pussytoes are easy to tell apart for male and female, the males have long brown parts sticking out of the fuzzy flower. Females don’t have that. I took a 2 year course in forestry, that included everything about a forest, not just trees, plants, flowers, moss and fungus too, everything about a healthy forest. I also studied geology (study of rocks and minerals), paleontology (study of fossils) and studying birds for over 30 years which earned me the title of expert ornithologist (study of birds). Have a great day Simon!๐๐๐โ๏ธ๐ฒ๐

Gorgeous wildflowers Steve. Do cats really try to catch and kill chipmunks? Next doorโs cat must be quite large.

Thank you Sheree! Yes, cats are deadly for chipmunks unfortunately. One reason why people should keep their cats indoors. It really doesn’t hurt them to stay inside. Actually his cat is only a bit bigger than Muffin, probably 12 pounds. Muffin is 10 pounds.
