Coffee For Friday. #5

Good morning and Happy Friday to everyone! It is time for a cup of coffee here at Steve’s Country. It is also a very wet morning here, with rain that has been falling for a couple of hours now. Not a heavy rain, just a light steady type rain. And it is much cooler this morning which is making it easier to cool off my little apartment. It does get rather hot in here at times, hotter than outside.

Creeping Phlox, a native wildflower.

I like the heat, but for some reason it feels different inside than it does outside. No, I do not have air conditioning. Unfortunately it makes me amazingly sore and stiff so that it is hard to even move around. But we do not get very many hot days anyway. Poor Muffin has a hard time though, she is not a hot weather cat. By the way, I am not complaining, just talking.

I have been out wandering around the yard the last few days. It is a good time to get pics of insects, although there are not as many bees and flower flies around this year. There are certainly a lot of flowers so it is odd there are fewer flower flies than normal. Perhaps they do not like wet weather. But there are many other insects, the only problem is trying to identify them. Some are quite unique so I thought they would be easy to identify, but not so it seems.

Clintonia, another native wildflower.

Dragonflies and damselflies are out now, well, have been for a while, but they do not come in the yard much. I need to walk to the river again to hopefully get more pics of them. It is supposed to clear today, if it does I will go for my walk. Should be lots of mosquitoes. Sigh. I am now beginning my 5th year of photography. And yesterday I finally got a picture of a butterfly that I have been after all that time.

So that makes 2 such butterfly species this year. We have several different butterfly species in our area, but some are hard to get as they do not like to sit down. Or if they do, they will fold their wings right away which hides their beautiful colors and markings. Makes it challenging, but if there was no challenge at all, then it would not be as much fun.

Long-leaf Bluets, native wildflower found down at the river on my last walk.

Some, however, are a bit too challenging. But perhaps it is just me. Insect photos will begin next week, providing identification goes well. Hmm, seems to be some thunder in the distance, hopefully it stays in the distance. Thank you for joining us for coffee again today. And thank you everyone for the many birthday wishes! Muffin and I had a great day. Have a wonderful day and God bless!

Steve and Muffin.
